End of Life Doula Support
What is a End-of-Life Doula?
The ultimate goal of an End of Life Doula is to assist the dying person and their family by creating a personal, peaceful, and special end-of-life transition.
What does End-of-Life Doula support look like?
End of Life Doula support always begins with the creation of a customized plan to support the dying person and their family.
This planning process is a collaborative effort and is completed with whomever the dying person wants in attendance. This plan considers all of practical, emotional, and spiritual concerns around the dying process.
From there - The services that I provide for you will depend upon what you need and my capacity to provide those services when you most need them.
Below is a glance at some of my more typical offerings:
End-of-life planning: This could include funeral arrangements, last will and testament or advanced directives.
Companioning: I can provide safe and nurturing emotional space for the dying person to talk about whatever it is that is on their mind. Often they want to talk about things that are hard for them to discuss with their families -such as their their fear of death, regrets, and even their belief around what happens after death. As a companion I try to help them accept and come to terms with this next phase of life.
Respite: I can provide brief relief for the caregivers by spending time with the dying person when they have errands to run, appointments to attend, or when they just need a quick break.
Death anxiety coping skills: It’s normal to have feelings of anxiety around death. I can help the dying person and their families to work through these fears in order to create a healthier relationship with the end.
Vigil Planning: For those who have received a terminal diagnosis, we will craft the right death scenario, from the death bed itself to care throughout the process.
Legacy Projects: I can help you put together a variety of different projects that you can leave behind for friends and loved ones. Final letters, timelines, videos, scrapbooks, collages, time capsules, etc.
Vigil Keeping: I can be present for and lend support to support the dying person and their family during the transition process.
Grief Support Referrals: I can refer you to my services or another therapist for grief therapy and group support.
